Accade un po’ a tutti, con i primi mesi di un nuovo anno si inizia a pensare nel dettaglio ai progetti per mesi successivi, perché no addirittura per l’estate! Ecco così che come da tradizione il “Burning Man Project” inizia a rivelare maggiori dettagli per la prossima edizione del festival, tra cui anche la scelta del suo “Tempio”, l’installazione di maggior rilievo.
Per la rassegna in programma come di consueto tra fine agosto e inizio settembre nel Black Rock Desert in Nevada, il tema di quest’anno sarà dato dal “Temple of Together” di Caroline Ghosn.
È interessante ricordare come nella scelta del progetto simbolo del Burning Man vengano considerati diversi fattori: design, funzionalità, carattere simbolico, sostenibilità, fattibilità realizzativa ma anche la domanda… brucerà in modo bello e sicuro? Il Burning Man infatti è un evento incentrato su arte, autoespressione e comunità che culmina con la cerimonia di un rogo simbolico.
Il tempio per il 2024 ha come tematica la luce scaturita dalla comunione e dalla partecipazione e compreso il cortile avrà una dimensione di 28 metri e un’altezza di 21 metri.
La rappresentazione simbolica del progetto è quella di due mani che si uniscono come in preghiera, un gesto che accomuna quasi tutti le tradizioni spirituali e che definisce un edificio che nasce come unione di un flusso di energia che si staglia poi verso l’alto. Una serie di archi a sesto acuto riprendono inoltre questo principio in vari punti del progetto.
La facciata è costituita da elementi intrecciati che richiamano le sedie Khaizaran che fanno parte del vissuto dell’infanzia dell’artista. Questa tecnica consente l’uso di materiali sostenibili e di recupero e permetterà la partecipazione di volontari per la costruzione con qualsiasi livello di abilità.
Caroline Ghosn nel 2022 aveva già curato il suo primo progetto su larga scala al Burning Man: “Disturb My Slumber” che invitava i partecipanti a riflettere sulle esperienze fatte durante la pandemia.
Dalle immagini rendering e da un primo video 3D del progetto del tempio si capisce come le forme rendano maggio ai templi del passato e in particolare ad un’installazione di una precedente edizione del festival, la prima a cui ha partecipato la progettista e a cui quindi è molto legata, il Tempio della Grazia di David Best del 2014.
La costruzione del tempio come del resto tutto il festival è un progetto collaborativo che si avvale di molti volontari, per chi fosse interessato sui canali ufficiali ci sono varie possibilità di coinvolgimento sul posto ma anche a distanza!

Will the ‘Temple of Together’ burn beautifully and safely at Burning Man Project 2024?
It happens a little bit to everyone, with the first months of a new year one begins to think in depth about plans for months to come, perhaps even for the summer! So as usual, the ‘Burning Man Project’ begins to reveal more details for the next edition of the festival, including the choice of its ‘Temple’, the most prominent installation.
For the festival scheduled as usual between late August and early September in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, this year’s theme will be Caroline Ghosn’s “Temple of Together”.
It is interesting to recall how several criteria are considered when choosing this iconic project: design, functionality, symbolism, sustainability, feasibility, but also the question… will it burn beautifully and safely? Burning Man is in fact an event focused on art, self-expression and community that culminates in a symbolic burning ceremony.
The temple for 2024 has as its theme the light that comes from togetherness and participation and including the courtyard will have a dimension of 28 meters and a height of 21 meters.
The symbolic image of the project consists of two hands joining together as if praying, a gesture common to almost all spiritual rituals and which defines a building that originates as a union of a flow of energy that then rises upwards. A series of pointed arches also echo this principle at various spots of the project.
The façade consists of interwoven elements that recall the Khaizaran chairs, which are part of the artist’s childhood memories. This technique allows the use of sustainable and recycled materials and will enable the participation of volunteers for the construction with any level of skill.
Caroline Ghosn had already curated her first large-scale project at Burning Man in 2022: “Disturb My Slumber” which invited participants to reflect on their experiences during the pandemic.
From the rendering images and a first 3D video of the temple project, it is clear how the shapes pay homage to the temples of the past and in particular to an installation from a previous edition of the festival, the first in which she participated and to that she is therefore very attached, David Best’s Temple of Grace of 2014.
The construction of the temple as well as the whole festival is a collaborative project with many volunteers, for those interested on the official channels there are various possibilities of involvement on site but also remotely!
